A Bright Light Among the Stars

My first exposure to Boeing was on my first assignment to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage in 1978. I was on a United 727 from Greensboro to Seattle. After an overnight stay in Seattle, I was on a DC-9 to Anchorage.

While stationed at Shemya Air Force Base in the Aleutians early one morning, I was with the on-duty air traffic controller and overheard Clipper "Westwind" check in with Anchorage. I went outside the tower cab and marveled at a starlit sky with a 747 gliding slowly overhead, with the navigation lights shining brightly. I have been a fan ever since. If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!
