Wing to Wing

In 1998, I was flying on a Boeing 737-200 with Varig Airlines straight out of flight school. One of my first flights was on a Boeing 737-200 with a tail number from Cruzeiro Linhas Aereas, which my father had flown.

On the layover I phoned my dad, retired the year before, and told him I was flying this aircraft he had probably flown. There was silence on the other side of the line, and then he said: "I was the first to fly that aircraft out of Boeing ..." and after a long pause, he continued: "... when you were 1 year old."

I was 28 years old at the time of that call.

I have grown to fly all Boeing twinjets, B737s (-200 to -700), the B767, the B757 and now the Boeing 777.
