Hawaii 4-7

March 2016

Favorite Boeing moment was taking off from Honolulu in the late '70s on a 747. It was a United 747-100 in the classic paint scheme, as delivered with the small red detail stripe.

Taxiing out over the isthmus taxiway to the new reef runway. Watching the wings bounce around in the crosswind next to a wind-whipped light blue lagoon.

Turned onto the runway, waited for a minute, then the engines cranked up and I felt the giant aircraft accelerate.

Aviation had scaled up.
