Fight or Flight

I have always loved everything about aviation. My dream of somehow being in the industry did not materialize. There was a time in my life, 60 or so years ago, that I could name any airplane flying in the sky.

There have been many mergers, as well as companies that are no more. Boeing has been there as long as I can recall. All these decades later, my fascination with aviation is as fresh a new paper cut. My story is not as exciting as most you will receive, but I still have drawings from my childhood.

The B-52 still is one of the most magnificent flying machines ever to make it from a drafting board. It is still active today, after all this time. What better testimony could there be for engineering excellence. As a child, my best friend and I were in a fight. A B-52 from Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Mount Clemens, Mich., flew low over us. The fight instantly ended. The wonder of flight is strong within me. I thank Boeing for their contribution to the greatest country on earth.
