Competitive airlines know that it's a jungle out there. It's often a struggle just to survive. Just over a decade ago, Lion Air started out with only one airplane. But today it is Indonesia's largest private airline-and the largest operator of the 737-900ER in the world.
Lion Air became the launch customer for the 737-900ER in 2005, believing the airplane would offer a competitive advantage in operating cost and passenger comfort. This formula for success worked so well that the airline recently celebrated the delivery of its 50th 737-900ER, complete with the new Boeing Sky Interior. The pride of Lion Air is apparent in the airplane's special commemorative livery. That pride is well-earned, because when it comes to operating the 737-900ER, Lion Air is clearly the king of the jungle.
