The Lower Duwamish Waterway in Seattle, Washington has turned pink and silver with returning salmon.
As they migrate upstream to spawn, the adult salmon pass by nearly one mile of restored shoreline with native plants and piles of woody debris. In 2014, Boeing completed its transformation of this stretch of industrial waterway at the Plant 2 site into wetland habitat to help support the survival of juvenile salmon, known as smolt.
How well is this habitat working?
According to two years-worth of data, it is working as designed and welcoming thousands of smolt.
