Innovation, advanced technology drive improved environmental performance
Boeing aspires to be the best in aerospace and an enduring global industrial champion—a top performer in each and every area of our business. This includes an unwavering commitment to environmental innovation and performance in our products, services and operations.
In just over a decade, we’ve reduced greenhouse gas emissions in our production facilities by 28 percent over the past decade while increasing aircraft deliveries 66 percent. Additionally, we’re collaborating with, and investing in, companies that share our goal of a more sustainable future. This includes a new, innovative partnership aimed at reducing solid waste by about 2 million pounds (907,000 kg) annually by turning excess carbon fiber into consumer products.
New technologies are improving aerospace industry efficiencies by significantly reducing harmful emissions and environmental footprint of our commercial and defense products. For example, our 787 Dreamliner uses 20 percent less fuel than the airplane it’s replacing, and our 777X will be the world’s largest and most fuel-efficient twin-aisle airplane when it takes to the skies.
Looking to the future of mobility, our electric-powered, fully autonomous passenger air vehicle prototype started test flights this year. With a range of up to 50 miles (80.5 km), it has the potential to shape the future of air travel and transport. We’re also supporting sustainability in our communities through continued grants, partnerships and our employees’ time.
After launching our new Global 2025 Environment Strategy last year, we made progress by advancing environmental initiatives on many fronts. It’s a good start, but we know there is a lot of work ahead of us as we build a more sustainable future for our children and generations yet to come.
