What categories of personal data are processed by this activity?

What are the purposes of processing personal data in this activity? The personal information will be used while conducting Usability Research. Usability Research includes numerous methods of observing users trying to use a product and collecting data about specific ways that it is easy or difficult to use. These methods provide measures of how well a product successfully supports the tasks that users need to perform with a system. Some methods elicit user requirements, and others help identify a customer/user’s mental model, which often influences the way they approach a goal. Success rate of task completions, time to complete tasks, errors, participants’ preferences and perceptions, and comments and approach from research participants are some examples of data that are collected during usability research. Results from usability research help to identify areas where a product’s user interface could be improved. This improvement might be redesigning a product to reduce errors, increase performance speed, or reduce users’ confusion.
What is the legal basis for processing personal data in this activity? The data subject has given consent to the processing of his or her personal data for one or more specific purposes.
What additional activities involve the collection and processing of personal information during the study?  Audio and video recordings may be made of participants.
How may consent be withdrawn?

If not offered as a self-service capability within the "DAS - BGS CX Usability Research 5 or less participants" data processing activity or otherwise addressed in an answer here, consent may be withdrawn using https://boeing.com/privacy/rightsexerciseportal.

Is the data subject (the person to whom the data relates) required to provide personal information for this processing activity, and what would be the possible consequences of failing to do so? Provision of personal information for this processing activity is not required.  Usability research is done to determine how human users interact with a system; thus, humans are necessary for usability research. Participation is not mandatory; therefore, if an individual does not want to participate, it would be necessary to find another volunteer to participate in the study.
Who are the recipients of the personal data in this activity? The recipients of the personal information in this activity will include Boeing Global Services Customer Experience Usability Research team members.
In what countries will the personal data be processed? The personal information will be used by business processes based in the United States.

The personal information will only be stored in the United States.

How long will the personal data be retained by this activity? Documentation for each usability research study, Informed Consent Forms, and data will reside on the ResearchOps website. Retention of usability documents will comply with the Master Records Retention Schedule (MRRS), which specifies retaining research, development, and design files for proposed products for 10 years. In accordance with MRRS, regardless of the retention periods specified in MRRS, records must be kept if required to support an ongoing investigation, proceeding, or contractual obligation. Refer to the Records and Information Management web site for further information about MRRS. Retention of video files are required a minimum of 6 months but could be as long as 1 year.
What specific privacy rights may the individuals whose personal data is processed by this activity have, and how can they be exercised? Anyone may have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (https://boeing.com/privacy/authorities.html).

Depending upon the jurisdiction(s) in which you live or work, you may have the following additional rights:

  • to request access to and rectification or erasure of personal data or restriction of processing
