voestalpine Böhler Aerospace was recognized with the Collaboration Award at the 2022 Supplier of the Year event. The award is given to a supplier who worked with Boeing to achieve a shared goal in areas of innovation, or process/product improvement.
Q: How did your company get started?
A: The use of forging hammers in our region can be traced back to the 15th century. Even before that time, and especially since then, our region’s core competence is the melting and processing of metals of nearly all kinds. We entered the aerospace business in the 1980s. Boeing was added as a customer shortly after.

A: Closed die forgings.
Q: What is your company vision/mission?
A: We stand for the most sophisticated, highly demanding forgings and additively manufactured components in the aviation, aerospace and energy industries. We strive to reduce the complexity of and risks in the supply chain for our customers, focusing on end-to-end solutions consisting of design, forging and additive manufacturing, heat treatment, pre-machining and finishing work.
Q: What does it mean to be recognized as a Supplier of the Year?
A: We are very proud that our long-term relationship with Boeing is so well recognized. This shows us that the implementation of sophisticated programs regarding quality, on-time delivery performance, research and development, and investments are successful, including our advanced quality reporting through the whole organization from the shop floor to top management.
Q: What should people know about your company?
A: We are leading the way in terms of quality and on-time delivery of complex pre-machined and finished forgings and additively manufactured components. We are specializing in the production of high-performance die-forged parts made of titanium alloys, high-alloyed steels and nickel-base alloys. As a cutting-edge developer and manufacturer of customer-specific, safety-critical component parts, we are constantly optimizing all of our processes and production processes in terms of the use of resources and workplace safety.
Q: How do you inspire your employees?
A: We offer our employees a working environment based on respect and trust, and offer challenging tasks for their personal development. The health and safety and the development of our staff are key to us. Support is given to our staff in both physical and mental matters through occupational health promotion and continuous professional development.
Q: Anything else you want to spotlight?
A: We are delivering more than 100,000 parts per year, supplying more than 75 aircraft programs worldwide. In 2020, we were working on more than 200 new part projects in parallel, highlighting our focus on our implemented stage-gate process for new parts according to advanced product quality planning requirements.
