World Air Cargo Growth Detail
International air freight will drive overall world air cargo growth through 2027.
Over the next 20 years, world air cargo traffic will grow at 5.8 percent per year. Air freight, including express traffic, will grow more rapidly than air mail, averaging annual growth of 5.9 percent through 2027. Air mail RTKs will grow much more slowly, averaging 2.1 percent during the same period. Overall, world air cargo traffic will increase from 193.6 billion RTKs in 2007 to more than 595.9 billion RTKs in 2027.
Asia's air cargo markets will continue to lead the world air cargo industry in average annual growth rates, with domestic China and intra-Asia markets expanding 9.9 percent and 8.1 percent per year, respectively. North-south markets linking Latin America and Africa with markets in the northern hemisphere will grow at approximately the world average growth rate. The more mature North America and Europe markets reflect slower and thus lower-than-average traffic growth rates.
