A revitalized airline fleet
80 percent will be new
28,600 new airplanes will be delivered over the next 20 years. These new airplanes will make up 80 percent of the 36,400 airplanes in service in 2026. The intense competitiveness of the airline industry demands that these new airplanes bring substantial benefits in the closely related areas of airplane performance and economics.
Growing within the world in which we live
Most importantly, the new airplane fleet will allow airlines to grow responsibly with the world in which we live. The improved efficiencies and commitment to environmental performance in new airplane designs means that the future fleet will bring the minimum possible impact on the environment, while allowing people of the world to benefit from the essential connections that only air travel can deliver.
Better for passengers
People travel by air. Every one of the billions of passenger-kilometers in our forecast will be experienced by someone who is important to us and to airlines operating airplanes of the future. Satisfying their needs drives us toward innovative airplane designs with more comfort, improved cabin environment, and more affordable air travel through better economics.
The high proportion of deliveries (84 percent) accounted for by single-aisle and twin-aisle airplanes means that more people will be able to go direct to their intended destination.
More efficient airline operations
More direct flights increase operational efficiency and avoid congested hubs. Newer airplanes burn less fuel and spend less time in maintenance, enabling airlines to achieve lower costs and higher utilization of their airplanes.
