Ground-based Midcourse Defense
Dec. 22, 1999 -- The 2nd and 3rd stages of an inert booster vehicle are assembled at the Boeing Ground-based Midcourse Defense Integration, Assembly, Test and Checkout facility, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., near Huntsville, Ala. Procedures for receipt, unloading and assembly of the inert booster stages were validated in preparation for integration with an engineering model inert missile. The Orbus 1 A rocket motor used for the 2nd and 3rd booster stages of the interceptor is built by Pratt & Whitney -- Chemical Systems Division in San Jose, Calif.
