Boeing, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace Partner for P-8 Support

ARLINGTON, Va. and OSLO, Norway, June 18, 2020 – Through a new aerospace partnership agreement, Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace plan to expand their existing collaboration, potentially creating new Norwegian jobs and growing the local industry.

Specifically, the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding with Kongsberg includes sustainment and maintenance engineering for the entire Norwegian P-8 fleet, in addition to on the job training for mechanics, local parts distribution and a new service support center.

“For the last several years Boeing has been actively engaged with Norwegian industry and they have continuously demonstrated that they have a robust, and highly capable defense sector that can support our defense businesses,” said Maria Laine, Boeing vice president, International Strategic Partnerships. “The scale and scope and strategic value of our collaboration opportunities reinforces our commitment to Norway, and our motto of promises made promises kept on our industrial agreements.”

Boeing’s partnership with Kongsberg dates back 20 years with joint work on NATO AWACS. The new agreement with Kongsberg will also support the company’s tailored industrial participation plan related to the acquisition of five P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft by the Norwegian Armed Forces in 2017.

“We are very pleased to expand our close cooperation with Boeing to include support for the Norwegian fleet of P-8, and potentially additional platforms in the future. Collaboration with international platform suppliers is of strategic importance to Kongsberg,” said Terje Bråthen, Executive Vice President Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS. “This ensures continuity and operational readiness in Norway, and gives Kongsberg further export opportunities.”
