Boeing’s two-decade partnership with Edmonds College centers on building workforce pipelines through hands-on training, curriculum co-design, equipment donations and student supports that mirror a modern aerospace factory floor. The Washington State Association of College Trustees recognized The Boeing Company as its 2026 Partner of the Year after Edmonds College nominated Boeing for its sustained investments in student training and regional workforce development.

Why it matters: The partnership creates direct, low-barrier pathways from community college classrooms into manufacturing and technical careers, helping sustain the region’s aerospace talent base and local economic stability.

Driving the news: The relationship includes financial investment, real-world training assets and ongoing mentorship.

  • Since 2021, Boeing has invested over $2.8 million in workforce development through programs such as the Learning Together Program and the Boeing-IAM partnership.
  • Boeing donated a Boeing 767 freighter aft section, known as the "Gray Ghost," to the Washington Aerospace Training & Research Center for on-aircraft training that simulates a smart manufacturing floor.
  • Boeing provides scholarships and regular engagement from subject matter experts.

How they did it: Boeing subject matter experts have worked with Edmonds College faculty since 2009 to align certifications in composites, assembly and quality assurance with current industry practices.

  • The 12-week Boeing Pre-Employment Training program offers a no-interview pathway into aerospace roles for successful graduates.

Teammates support students with technical mock interviews, industry-specific resume reviews and guest lectures on Lean Manufacturing.

What they are saying:

“Boeing has been vital in building our local workforce,” said Edmonds College President Dr. Amit B. Singh. “Our partnership with them has helped turn our Washington Aerospace Training & Research (WATR) Center into a high-tech environment that mirrors a real factory and adapts to technological advancements. This training model ensures our graduates are ready to help drive the industry forward the moment they enter the aerospace industry sector.”

“We are honored to receive the 2026 Partner of the Year Award from the Washington State Association of College Trustees,” said Gina Breukelman, Senior Manager for Boeing Global Engagement. “This recognition reflects the strength of our longstanding partnership with Edmonds College and the broader community and technical college system across Washington. Together, we are building a skilled workforce that drives innovation and economic growth in aerospace and beyond

The big picture: Boeing’s sustained investments signal that community and technical colleges are key partners in workforce development and regional economic resilience.
