Boeing has partnered with Aviatema Equipment to distribute inflatable aircraft maintenance shelters, providing commercial and military customers with a controlled environment for routine and unexpected repairs when traditional hangars are unavailable.

Why it matters: The inflatable shelters enable rapid deployment for aircraft maintenance while protecting personnel and equipment from harsh elements at forward operating bases or remote airfields.

What’s happening: During a demonstration at  Talisman Sabre 2025, a global military drill, the innovative, flexible solution showcased its ability to support military aircraft in austere environments and ensure mission-critical readiness without relying on fixed infrastructure.

Zoom in: The shelters come in various sizes to accommodate different aircraft types, including single-aisle and widebody models, and can fully enclose engines or fuselage sections.

  • Each shelter includes an air blower, repair kit and user manual, with optional accessories, such as LED lights, ballast bags and tiedown ropes, to enhance safety and usability.

How it works: Using an inflatable design for portability, it incorporates a heavy-duty ripstop fabric with multiple protective coatings to withstand wind speeds over 30 knots, as well as rain, snow, UV exposure and dust.

  • Offers a quick setup time of approximately 15 to 20 minutes for a four-person team.
  • Reduces costs by minimizing downtime and eliminating the need for costly hangar space.

What they’re saying: “This inflatable maintenance shelter is a game-changer for aircraft operators facing hangar shortages or urgent repair needs,” said Mark Smith, Boeing Distribution Australia. “Its portability, durability and ease of use make it an essential tool for maintaining operational readiness in any environment, especially for military missions where flexibility and speed are paramount.”

The big picture: The partnership with Aviatema leverages Boeing’s global supply chain and extensive parts distribution network to ensure repair capabilities and aircraft availability for commercial and military operations.
