Global Services mechanics and maintainers work in dozens of countries around the world to keep commercial and defense customers flying safely and reliably.
They are part of a long legacy of those who made this essential profession what it is today – starting with Charles Taylor, known as the first aviation mechanic because he built the Wright Brothers’ first engine that led to powered flight.
In honor of Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Day May 24 – Taylor’s birthday – Global Services teammates share what drew them to this essential profession and the pride they take in keeping Boeing’s commercial and defense products flying.
The demand for such skills across the industry will only continue to grow; on the commercial side alone, Boeing estimates that 710,000 new maintenance technicians will be needed to fly and maintain the global aviation fleet over the next 20 years.
