Boeing, Lufthansa Technik announce Chinook sustainment plan

Boeing and Lufthansa Technik Defense, a German maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services provider, signed an agreement at the Farnborough International Airshow to support the country’s Chinook helicopter fleet.

Why it matters: Boeing and Lufthansa Technik will establish a network of parts warehouses and logistics services across Germany to support the future fleet of CH-47F Block II Chinook heavy-lift helicopters.

“This agreement marks an important step forward in ensuring sustained readiness of the German CH-47F Chinook fleet across different bases,” said Marc-Olivier Sabourin, Boeing Global Services vice president, Government, Europe, Canada, Israel and Latin America.

Germany’s Chinook fleet will be the first rotary-wing aircraft in Lufthansa Technik’s MRO portfolio.

“With our tailored parts logistics expertise, we will make a significant contribution to ensuring the high level of operational readiness that is essential for the sovereign German sustainment,” said Michael von Puttkamer, senior vice president, Special Aircraft & Defense, Lufthansa Technik.

Zoom in: Germany’s first CH-47F Chinook is in final assembly in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The country is scheduled to take delivery of the aircraft in 2027.

Boeing and Lufthansa Technik Defense are also cooperating on support for Germany’s active P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol fleet. The P-8A collaboration covers aircraft checks, component support, engine condition monitoring and technical training.
