Some workdays mean rolling up sleeves and rolling out skateboards – proving you can "do cool things" at work and while volunteering in the community.

What happened: On Aug. 5, Boeing Seal Beach became a vibrant hub of generosity and collaboration when more than 150 Boeing Leadership Next (LX) teammates from numerous countries and Boeing sites volunteered for a special project supporting two Boeing Global Engagement partner non-profits — Think Education and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley.

The impact: During the event, employees assembled 57 skateboards specially crafted for underserved youth, including children in foster care. The skateboards represented freedom, confidence, and joy, providing the children with a meaningful mode of transportation and a chance to embrace fun and independence.

What they're saying:

“This event brought out our creative side as emerging leaders and, we hope, will inspire future STEM innovators to dream big and pursue a future career at Boeing,” said Rebecca Olea, Business Operations Analyst, St. Louis Paint & Production Equipment Maintenance. “It was such a unique way to volunteer and give back to the southern California community during America’s 250th anniversary year.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Boeing for investing in our students and the communities we serve,” said Think Education Founder and CEO Randy Barth. “Support like this gives underserved youth access to experiences that can build confidence and open doors to STEM. These skateboards are more than a gift; they’re an opportunity for students to learn, create and see what’s possible for their future.”

Boeing Backs America: During America’s 250th anniversary year, Boeing encourages employees to extend their impact beyond the workplace and into the communities where they live and work. With the goal of 2026 being an exceptional year of community impact, Boeing is creating new ways for teammates to volunteer, serve, and make a meaningful difference, such as building skateboards for youth.

Don’t forget: This year, Boeing’s year-round volunteer match program partners with America250’s America Gives campaign. When Boeing employees volunteer, their hours are added to America Gives’ volunteer hour tally.

Get involved: Employees are encouraged to participate in local events hosted by Boeing Global Engagement and America Gives for the remainder of 2026.

Need to know:

  • Applying for Boeing’s gift match program can double your impact in the community.
  • Individual volunteer time is matched at $100 for every 10 hours volunteered with the same nonprofit.
  • If at least five employees create a team and participate in a single volunteer activity together, Boeing will donate $20 per hour per employee to the benefiting organization.

Go deeper:

  • For the past five years, Boeing has supported Think Education, a California-based nonprofit focused on expanding K-12 STEM education across 68 schools in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Through hands-on learning in computer science, robotics, aviation, and workforce readiness, Boeing’s backing provides vital staff training, advanced curriculum, and engaging STEM kits for students—fueling the next generation of innovators and explorers.
  •  Boeing supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, a youth development organization offering preschool and after-school programs that empower local youth.
  •  Community engagement is central to the participants of Boeing’s LX program. By serving together, LX participants develop core leadership competencies – knowledge, skills, and abilities that drive effective leadership. Through organizing and participating in community service, LX participants gain hands-on experience managing projects, navigating challenges, and building relationships within the community, all while strengthening trust among the Boeing team and with the communities served.

Boeing is committed to preparing and inspiring the next generation of innovators and explorers. Through close collaboration with schools, community organizations, and industry partners, Boeing supports STEM education and workforce development programs tailored to the needs of the communities where our employees live and work.
