In my experience, the foundation of leading engineering teams, of operational excellence, is rooted in an understanding of the data that a team produces, how it is expected to be created, managed and maintained, and how it is used downstream. Quality engineering is built on work statement definition, integrated scheduling, integration of parts, plans and tools. I love everything that comes with product life cycle management — layout definition, dataset creation, bill of material authoring, engineering and manufacturing product structures, spatial integration, configuration calculations, and part demand management.
We are surrounded by technical experts, innovators, big ideas, experience and challenges. Seeing all of this across the company is rewarding, and the opportunity to dig into technical details, help shape outcomes and help people get their ideas into our ever-changing but stable production environment is most rewarding.
It is an honor to be a part of the Boeing Technical Fellowship, and a responsibility to know our customers, our engineers, and our company are counting on us to do cool things and routine things right.
I get excited knowing that I don’t need to see our products roll out the door because I already know they are great, that our people are the best, and that our systems, processes, designs and data are the best.
