The engineering field chose me as I progressed through a myriad of opportunities based on my interests at the time.
My father was an engineer for the U.S. Navy, then for a defense contractor. I always enjoyed math, science and solving problems, so engineering was a good fit for my personal interests. The other family business was setting tile and marble, which was a whole lot harder.
I attended the University of California, Los Angeles, planning to design airplanes. But it turned out that I liked the spacecraft design classes more than wing design. My graduate work was much more theoretical around nuclear engineering and environmental sciences.
When I graduated, missile defense interested me the most, as it involved a lot of different disciplines. From there, I chose assignments that sounded interesting and seemed to make a difference in the world.
I like developing new concepts and winning new programs to solve our customers’ problems. I also enjoy watching people grow in their knowledge as we execute those programs together.
The Boeing Technical Fellowship represents technical excellence and provides the opportunity to reach out to people to help solve complex problems for our customers without a lot of iteration. The knowledge and capabilities within the Fellowship community are simply amazing.
Looking to the future, I’m excited to lead others to continue our focus on engineering excellence, ensuring product performance, reliability and safety matter as much as fulfilling our customer requirements on time and on budget.
