April 26: The teams from Boeing and the IAM continue to meet in subcommittees and at the main bargaining table. The talks are on schedule and have been respectful as we learn more about each other’s positions.

Stephanie Pope, the new leader of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, recently met with IAM District 751 president Jon Holden and shared her thoughts on the discussions during an all-team meeting on Thursday.

March 8: Boeing and the IAM have officially opened negotiations. We look forward to reviewing the union’s proposal and continuing our discussions in good faith. We’re confident there’s a path to a deal that addresses the needs of our employees while allowing us to compete in a very competitive global market.

The Competition

Demand for our airplanes is strong and our customers are counting on us to deliver on our commitments. While we steadily increase production rates across key programs, we know our competition is pushing airplane output even higher and fiercely competing with Boeing to win more orders.

There are approximately 32,000+ employees represented by the International Association of Machinists 751 in Washington and W24 in Portland, Oregon. While primarily supporting Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the bargaining unit also includes employees from Boeing Defense, Space & Security, Boeing Global Services and corporate groups.

Formal negotiations began on March 8, 2024. Negotiations usually begin with noneconomic items in the contract such as work rules, procedures and updating language. Economic discussions follow, where the company and union focus on items such as wages and benefits. We anticipate the bulk of discussions on these economic items to take place this summer.

The collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between Boeing and IAM 751 & W24 expires at 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 12, 2024.

Federal labor law prohibits Boeing from bargaining directly with employees. We will only negotiate with union officials. However, we will share updates on our website and mobile app throughout the process.

We will provide full details of our contract offer after we present it to the union at the conclusion of negotiations.

The union will decide when and where the vote will occur.
