Flexible satellites for government and commercial operators

Boeing builds adaptable satellites to meet changing business cases and fulfill even the most demanding missions. We’re well into our sixth decade of providing advanced space and communications systems for military, commercial and scientific uses. Boeing satellites reliably deliver digital communications, mobile communications, broadband internet connectivity, streaming entertainment, and direct-to-home entertainment around the world.

Our flagship satellite model, the Boeing 702, is a powerful, scalable product line offering flexible designs that can operate in the geosynchronous, medium-Earth or low-Earth orbital planes. More than 50 have been launched to date. Our newest version is the 702X.

Building the Future of Connectivity Together

Boeing Commercial Satellites designs and sells communications satellites and payloads for commercial telecommunications, broadband, scientific and environmental applications. Boeing-built spacecraft relay voice and video communications, streaming video content, and direct-to-home entertainment.

Programs include O3b mPOWER, an eleven-satellite constellation that will provide high-performance data communications coverage to the “other three billion” people around the world without internet access nearly global; ViaSat-3, three high-power 702 satellite platforms that will be integrated with ViaSat-3 payloads, slated to deliver industry leading boosts to residential services and video streaming for commercial airlines, business jets and high-value government transport; and SES 20/21, two C-band communications satellites that are being launched to help the FCC migrate spectrum for use in terrestrial 5G networks.

Boeing’s 702x software-defined satellite provides flexibility connectivity for a variety of customer missions, and this advanced technology can be deployed in any orbit. Boeing works closely with subsidiary Millennium Space Systems on small satellite constellation offerings.

Satellite Services

Boeing Commercial Satellite Services delivers satellite communications to our partners operating on land, at sea, and in air. Boeing designs secure, scalable, military-grade solutions that are flexible and responsive to dynamic mission needs. Boeing offers a fully managed network service that supports user-operated or automated secure beam commanding, including platform tracking, to enable our customers to steer their capacity anywhere in the world. The benefits we bring to government customers include rapid response to contingency operations, augmented capacity to Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellites and full compatibility with U.S. DoD certified terminals.

    Protecting What Matters

Boeing Government Satellite Systems delivers satellite and ground solutions that support government customers’ national security operations, including intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and communications.

Moving at mission-relevant speed to deliver resilient systems to the escalating threat environment, Boeing leverages technological innovation from commercial and government space programs developing best-in-class satellite systems across all orbits and mission sets. With capabilities ranging from payload technology development to designing turnkey end-to-end systems, our products encompass narrowband ultra-high frequency solutions that enable worldwide communication in challenging environments, and protected wideband systems that enable high-capacity broadband connectivity for the U.S. government and its allies.

Modern intelligence gathering and warfare requires immediate, secure and reliable connectivity at real-time speeds. With advanced phased-array design and anti-jam technology, Boeing satellites grant the warfighter and government decision-makers unconstrained access and connectivity in a contested environment. Boeing’s ground products provide secure, low risk, resilient, modern, cloud-based systems developed around containerized software and open standards. We employ modern techniques, including additive manufacturing, digital engineering, agile development, and DevSecOps to quickly and securely deliver qualified mission systems to our customers.

A leader in advance space experimentation, Boeing is the prime contractor for the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle – the most advanced un-crewed re-entry spacecraft used by the U.S. Department of the Air Force to perform risk-reduction and experimentation for reusable space vehicle technologies.
