Wide Band

Global Xpress Managed Ka Service

Ubiquitous connectivity, guaranteed quality, and government-validated security and reliability – that’s the Global Xpress value proposition. Global Xpress is the only commercial Ka-band network delivering a worldwide service from a single operator. As a proven and trusted Ka source, Global Xpress complements U.S. government satellite communications to meet evolving requirements with a scalable solution.

Purposely built for mobility and on-demand flexibility, the Global Xpress system operates across 72 fixed beams on each satellite in the Inmarsat 5 constellation. The commercial Ka-band fixed beams enable consistent and reliable service between +/- 70 degrees latitude, delivering tens of megabits of throughput to end users. Global Xpress provides a dependable, continuous service – on land, at sea and in the air — with seamless connectivity between each spot beam. With our Committed Information Rates (CIR), users enjoy assured service quality and rapid availability for in-route and in-theater mission requirements.

Global Xpress is provided as an end-to-end managed service — delivered by BCSS. This unique, ‘SATCOM as a Service’ model offers globally-mobile connectivity the way you need it: simple-to-implement, affordable and operationally available — anywhere, anytime.

Boeing is an authorized Value Added Reseller for Global Xpress and provides rapidly reconfigurable options for our customers. For more information visit: http://www.inmarsat.com/global-xpress-us-government/.

High Capacity Payload | Commercial and Military Ka Service

BCSS offers high-capacity beams operating in the commercial and military Ka-band allow NATO and AUS/CAN/NZ/UK/US users to access wideband capacity as part of their own independent network. These steerable beams are designed to augment the military Ka-band capacity provided by the Wideband Global SATCOM system (WGS) to fulfill requirements and cost-effectively enhance the operational flexibility. On the ground, in the air or at sea, BCSS offers user-operated or fully automated secure beam commanding, including platform tracking, to enable our customers to steer their capacity anywhere in the world. Six steerable high capacity beams exist on each of the four I-5 satellites. Our engineering team has configured the system to provide greater than five gigabits per second of throughput and can design customized services for any application.

BCSS is able to establish communication networks in a variety of ways, including within the same beam, ‘reach-back’ through Satellite Access Stations (SAS) and as networks between spot beams. To support the needs of government users, Boeing has established its own collection of secure, Military-Ka enabled teleports designed with security and functionality in mind. A wide range of channel sizes (up to 740 MHz) are variable and can be engineered – along with backhaul architectures – to meet specific requirements.

Using our High Capacity Crossover service, military users are able to connect their same WGS-approved Military Ka terminals using any DoD-certified waveform, to the same destined Point of Presence, or through Inmarsat-provided Global Xpress secure gateways.

Narrow Band

Inmarsat L-Band

Inmarsat’s comprehensive broadband services provide simultaneous voice and data, globally. They include Standard IP for office applications and guaranteed, on-demand Streamingrates for more demanding users.

Inmarsat-owned and managed proven state-of-the-art commercial satellite constellation and ground infrastructure supports Inmarsat’s portfolio of Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN), SwiftBroadband and FleetBroadband managed communication services. In addition, innovative solutions such as L-TAC, Low Profile BGAN and BGAN HDR empower government users with dependable connectivity throughout land expeditionary, maritime and airborne operations.

Inmarsat L-band services deliver seamless global voice and data; from email, web and VPN to videoconferencing, telemedicine and live broadcasting, with a range of capabilities and antenna sizes to suit our customers’ budgets and needs. Boeing is proud to be able to offer Inmarsat’s broadband services to mobile users globally. See more at: http://www.inmarsat.com/.

Coverage

Inmarsat service is accessible globally, except for the extreme polar regions. Alphasat now supplements Inmarsat’s ground-breaking Inmarsat-4 (I-4) series, which is expected to support Inmarsat’s L-band services until the early-2020s.

UHF

Boeing Commercial Satellite Services (BCSS) is currently offering UHF SATCOM services over the Indian Ocean Region through key commercial operators of UHF satellite capacity in the region. Coverage includes Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

These UHF services offer our customers the ability to extend critical tactical command and control networks over commercially available 25 Khz channels that are fully compatible with legacy UHF equipment. Through these relationships, BCSS can offer tactical military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) to provide telecommunications services to US and NATO country armed forces.

This service provides a true force multiplier to augment the currently oversubscribed UFO and MUOS systems legacy capabilities. Since UHF satcom is the most frequently used military satcom service, UHF augmentation from commercial sources allows the warfighter to ensure that they have UHF narrowband communications when and where they need it. Our UHF services allow warfighter networks to operate in most weather and foliage conditions and mirror the capabilities offered by the UFO and MUOS systems.

Network Operations Centers

Boeing’s network operations centers (NOC) – one in the Washington DC Metro area and one in Puget Sound – run monitoring, control and network management functions to support government and commercial customer missions. NOC personnel attend to infrastructure as well as internal and external networks to guarantee high quality service. Among these services are a secure customer-accessible web portal, a Network Management System (NMS) that allows remote monitoring and control, and metrics records provided to customers.

Secure Commanding Service

BCSS’ Secure Commanding is a confidential, agile service that lets customers remotely control the pointing and movement of their designated beam.

Using a secure web portal, customers can submit encrypted real-time or preplanned move requests to their respective beams as needed to cover new operating positions or to perform autonomous platform tracking to follow remote terminals in motion. The satellite executes the beam repositioning request, rapidly moving to wherever the mission takes the user while suppressing the user’s location data in the satellite position telemetry. The web portal also allows users to monitor the status of their beam repositioning requests and delete beam repositioning requests history data.
